Digital Literacy Debrief

5/23/2018

The last official piece of our work together is a debrief. My work with you centers on the content, but if you'd like to also use the time to talk about presentation skills, feel free to. Some possible topics:
  • What went well? challenges? observations? questions?
  • What further training or support would you like to have, if any?
  • What are your next steps as trainers?
  • [Add your topic here.]
To add your comment: click 'Comment' below left or above right, and fill in the form. (Website can be left blank.) Or click for a brief video tutorial showing how it should work. If it misbehaves, please email me your comment and I'll post it for you.

If you can, please post:

- by Wednesday, 5/30: initial response to the above bulleted topics
- by Wednesday, 6/6: reply to at least one post that either resonates with a strength or an area to strengthen.

Overall, I think it all went well. Like any presenter presenting for the first time, it was a little choppy. I felt a little rushed and didn't think we were able to spend as much time with the material as was probably needed. The time constraint didn't help with that.

I don't feel like I need any additional training or support. Just need more time to review material and more practice delivering content.

I think the next steps would be to conduct the training again with 15-20 minutes more time in order to adequately get through everything. Also, I feel like I need to continue to immerse myself in the material to completely understand everything forwards and backwards.

Caleb and I will reach out to some local providers that have a lot of teachers and see if any are interested in this training.

The only other thing I would add to Charlie's comments would be that it would have been nice for the attendees to have the lesson packet in their hands....or at least the one lesson we covered.

I think this would have helped make everything connect a little better in the attendees' minds.

Also...we received this in an email from one of the attendees. It made me feel like it went well, even though I thought it could have been a little better.

" I also wanted to commend you and Caleb for an excellent presentation. Co-presenting often looks either very clunky, or very chunky (or sectional), and as a former Special Ed. Inclusion teacher, you all did a fantastic job. It’s not easy to have such a fluid back and forth between presenters/teachers, but when it’s well done, I always make it a point to communicate that."

Diana,

I'd love to get your impressions from the session. What were your thoughts for the following?

What went well? challenges? observations? Anything else we should be thinking about?

Hi all,

Thank you for letting us know your thoughts.

I share the same thoughts as you and the participant have expressed - it went smoothly, and participants got exposed to the main components of the materials. You mention wanting to get more familiar with the material, which I understand, but even though it was your first time, I thought you conveyed your expertise with it.

I also felt rushed - and therefore rushed you, Charlie - I'm sorry! I agree that more time would be better next time it's offered so participants have time to dig in to the lessons in small groups and start thinking about how they might adapt one to implement with their students. Or if more time can't be made available, perhaps cutting down on the research or interactives (Kahoot, Playfactile, etc.) portions would free up some time.

I wonder what options might be possible to address Caleb's suggestion about providing handouts, while keeping to the conference's guidance to presenters not to have handouts in order to be inclusive of attendees with disabilities. Would it be possible to have them available both as handouts and have a digital option for those with disabilities?

Will we get access to participant responses on the evaluations? I would be very interested to know their perspectives.

I also want to make sure you know about the State Trainers online community on LINCS:
https://community.lincs.ed.gov/groups/microgroups

You can share/get support by interacting and/or lurking with other trainers nationwide. If you don't already have one, just create a free LINCS account to join.
